Benzyl Salicylate has a faint, sweet, floral-balsamic odour with a soft, slightly powdery background. On its own the scent is subtle, which is why it is valued more for what it does in a blend than for its own character.
It is used in perfume and attar compositions as a fixative to slow the evaporation of lighter notes and extend the life of a fragrance on skin or fabric. It also finds use in soap, cosmetics and other scented products where a stable, long-lasting base note is needed.
Blend directly into perfume oil or alcohol-based compositions along with other base notes, usually added toward the end of compounding. It can be used alongside other fixatives and diluted as needed for the final formulation.
